We have been hearing a lot of complaints about the poor quality of Commercial Street in New Minas. It is a very bad time of year for pot holes and the recent rain and freezing/thawing patterns have exacerbated an already deficient situation. We are aware of this, as many of us here also drive these roads every day.
Something that many people may not realize is that, unlike towns, the Village does not own the roads in New Minas. They are owned by the Province of Nova Scotia and maintained through the Department of Transportation.
Today the Village was advised that the Department of Transportation will be addressing the potholes on Highway 101 tomorrow (Tuesday, February 13th). Work would then follow on the critical areas of Commercial Street starting Wednesday of this week. The Province has outlined a plan to re-surface Commercial Street which is fabulous news! You can find more information about the 5-year plan here: 5 Year Plan
In the meantime, if you would like to report a pot hole, please call the D.O.T. at 1-844-696-7737.
