New Minas Recreation Summer Day Camp 2023
We are looking forward to another fun and exciting Summer! We have made some changes to Summer Day Camp in the hopes of providing a better experience. Please review the information below, our FAQ, Summer Day Camp Manual and if necessary, the Youth Leader Information before registering for Day Camp. Please check back before the registration date to see if any information has changed.
Hours:
This year our camp hours are going to run 7:30AM-5:00PM. Pick up and drop off will happen at the gymnasium doors. If you are dropping off your child after 8:30AM and/or picking up before 4:00PM, please alert a leader or coordinator. In those instances, drop off/pick up will happen at the Recreation Office (Room 125 in the same hallway where camp group rooms are located). The best way to contact for early pick up is via email to ericad@newminas.com, or by alerting a staff member at drop off.
Camp will not run on July 3, July 28 or August 7th.
Cost/Payment:
The cost for summer day camp is $115/week. We are not offering part time enrollment for the summer months.
This includes any holidays and one staff training day during the summer.
The first week payment is required this year upon registration. Each payment after that is required a full 7 days before the start of your registered week. If you are unable to pay 7 days before, you can reach out for a payment arrangement.
Any payments that have not been received 7 days before will receive ONE email reminder to the email address we have on file. It is important that you confirm your email address and make sure there are no mistakes. If your payment is not received or an arrangement is not made by the Monday before camp, your child will be removed from registration and the spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list. This will be strictly enforced.
Over the years, the amount of no-show registrations has increased. This is unfair to not only our staff and the amount of effort they put in to planning fun activities for a certain number of children, but extremely unfair to children on the waitlist.
Leaders:
You will notice that your child has additional leaders this year. We have made this change to provide a safer, more engaging environment for your child.
Interest Based Sessions:
This year we are incorporating interest-based sessions into the afternoons. Each week your child will pick two different activities they are curious to explore. The camps will be split into Senior-Inter and Junior-Primary for these sessions. Sessions can include imaginary play, sports, cooking, outdoor play, and quieter, less stimulating activities such as building Lego, arts and crafts, nature walks, etc. We hope that this creates an environment where the children can explore different interests and be better engaged in their chosen activities. Your child will be asked to pick their top 3 choices on Monday morning and will be sorted into groups that day. As parents, you will be able to see what skills will be offered during your child’s week at camp beforehand, we ask that you get them thinking about what they may like to choose to make the whole process run smoothly.
Recreation Program vs Daycare:
Summer Day Camp in New Minas is Recreation based programming. While we take great pride in offering a fun, safe, supervised environment for your child to spend their summer, it is not the right fit for all children. Participation is key in running a successful program. If you child is unwilling to participate on a consistent basis and interrupting the flow of our program, it may not be the appropriate place for your child. If we feel like this is not a good fit, we will give you as much notice as possible to make other arrangements.
If your child is a threat to themselves, other campers, or staff, you will be asked to pick them up immediately and they will not be permitted back to camp.
Please reach us at ericad@newminas.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Registration will begin on May 1st, 2023 at 9AM. The quickest and easiest way to register is by following the online registration link that will appear at the top of this page on May 1st.
