The Village Commission reviewed the process and cost to contract the issuance of the tax billings with the County of Kings and projects there will be a net cost savings of approximately $20.00/year, combined with a more streamlined process of verifying assessments has convinced the Commission to bill Village property owners directly.
Village rates cover construction, maintenance and administration of sidewalks, street lighting, parks and the Louis Millett Community Complex. Also, recreation programs and administration are included in the Village rate.
Residential Rate: 43 cents per $100 of assessed value
Resource Rate: 43 cents per $100 of assessed value
Commercial Rate: 59.2 cents per $100 of assessed value
Sewer Rate (properties not on our water system): $302.00/yr
PAYMENT MADE BY BANK OR MORTGAGE COMPANY:
Contact Village Office and give them name of bank/mortgage company & mortgage #
Contact your bank, give them your new Village Account # and amount owing.
The due date for taxes is August 1st. If full taxes are not paid by August 1st of each year, ratepayers have the option of paying their current taxes in four equal installments without penalty by the following dates:

Account number is the property ID #, which is NM followed by the first 8 digits of your assessment number.
The Village of New Minas is pleased to offer a convenient way to pay your taxes: Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD).
It’s a quick and convenient way to manage your taxes, either by paying once a month or once a year. The payments will come out of your account the last day of the month, or the first business day of the preceding month on a weekend or holiday.
To start using PAD complete the supplied Payor’s Pre-Authorized Debit Agreement form and return to the Village Office for processing, if you have any questions on how to fill out the form or want to know your estimated monthly amounts, please contact the office at 902-679-1878.
Legal professionals and Real Estate Companies will have to contact both the County and the Village office to receive tax certificates. A fee of twenty ($20.00) is required for certificates.
INTEREST ON OUTSTANDING BALANCES:
The Village will impose interest, for non-payment of taxes. The charge will be 1% per month, compounded, and will begin on November 1st on all arrears.

**Ratepayers must always contact the Village if taxes cannot be paid on time**
“In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, Village taxes are a lien on the owner’s property. Taxes are due and payable as outlined on the tax bill, and Village taxes and/or County taxes that are in arrears for more than one year can be placed for sale by the County or the Village.”
